This post was inspired by the new #trashterracotta trend.
I absolutely love vases whether they are full of fresh flowers or used as a decoration. As you likely know, new vases can get pretty pricey even if they are from Winners! However, using only materials found at home, I was able to create 3 new vases for ~$10.
I did some digging before I started to paint and found two bloggers who had done this project as well. One suggested mixing paint with baking soda and one suggested mixing paint with baking powder. After trying both, I found myself leaning more towards mixing with baking soda because you get that true stone look/feel. If you have both at home, I still suggest trying both since they give different looks.
For materials, I had bought one pink vase from Value Village ($3.99) which I hadn’t actually planned on painting. The other three were old ones I had kicking around and almost donated. For paint, I had old samples from Home Depot when I was painting my bedroom. If you want to get samples they are $4/235ml. Great thing about those pots is that I have SO much left over for other crafts.
old or thrifted vases
acrylic paint (I used leftover paint from my walls)
baking soda or baking powder
paint brushes
Start with 1 tablespoon of baking soda and a about a 1/4 cup of paint. No need to actually measure.
Mix it up! The baking soda will fuzz up a little, thats what makes the texture.
And then paint. Plain and easy!
